Meze 109 Pro Headphones - Open Back
Meze have taken all their knowledge and unique technologies to build a gorgeously comfortable and magnificently full, textured sounding pair of open back headphones. Here at Douglas HiFi we have listened to many headphones over the years and can report that these are some of the most enjoyable we have experienced.
It all started with a purpose – creating joy. It’s about letting yourself get lost in sound, about that intimate connection you have with your favorite artist, song or instrument, when all distractions are removed.
"At the core of it all, music is an expression of emotion, a celebration of life and a token of everlasting memories. Every part of the 109 PRO, from the premium materials we used to the intricate engineering, embodies that same emotion our favorite music makes us feel.”
Antonio Meze, Lead Designer and Founder of Meze Audio.
Through its open-back design, Meze wanted the 109 PRO to be vivid and exciting, empowering the listener to connect with music on a deeper level.
An Open Back Headphone with Bass
Open Back style headphones are often revered for a more realistic representation of acoustic instruments being presented as live and on a stage. Carefully tuned by their in-house engineering team, the 109 Pro offers emotionally engaging sound with great detail, clarity and just the right amount of punch. Its organic character, paired with superior dynamics, excellent imaging, and full-bodied vocals bring soul-stirring details to life. Besides, it’s easy to drive from most devices, whether we’re talking portable sources or intricate home setups. The Bass response and impact is well balanced and digs deep on all genres of music with enough response even for electronic music whilst still having the open surround like audio qualities of that it seems only Open Back headphones can deliver easily.
109 Pro is very dynamic, crisp, fast, energetic and warm in the mid-range. It’s a joyful headphone full of emotion, excitement and high pace & speed.
The New 109 Pro has a speedy and reasonably impactful bass response. It’s a natural and breathy presentation, and the dynamic driver is nicely balanced in terms of definition and control. The headphone gives you the appropriate bass whenever you need it but always keeps it under control. It’s not a bass headphone, but it’s certainly enjoyable for Pop and RnB tracks, though you shouldn’t expect a big bass response overall.
The quality of the bass is the most impressive part. Decay is great, recovery is excellent and the mid-bass area is just well-balanced without any excessive nature. This is just the right amount of bass quantity in my opinion. Since it has great quality too, I can easily say that this is one of the nicest-performing dynamic drivers I’ve seen in a while.
The mid-bass and sub-bass balance are excellent, and the transition from mid-bass to mid-range is well-organized and smooth. Overall, I couldn’t find any weakness in the bass performance.
